Are you a talented playwright, looking for opportunities to have your work seen and heard by the public? 

Well, look no further! Pioneer Productions Company, a local NJ-based theater company, in partnership with the Morristown and Morris Township Library, is opening submissions for the 2027 New Play Reading Series!   Selected plays will be performed by actors from Pioneer Productions Company in a live reading at the Morristown and Morris Township Library in Spring 2027. The reading dates are March 31, April 14, and April 28.  These events will be free and open to the public and will include a discussion with the audience. 

What we are looking for: 

Short, one-act plays that are approximately 10 minutes in length.  Only original, unpublished, plays are eligible for submission.

Who can apply: 

Anyone willing to travel to Morristown, NJ!  All of the selected playwrights will be required to attend the reading of their work at the Library.  If you are outside of New Jersey but willing to travel for the event, you are welcome to submit!

 All submissions will be taken seriously and valued equally.

Fee: There is no fee! It’s free!

Deadline for submitting your play: November 15, 2026 

Submission parameters: 

• Playwrights may submit a maximum of TWO short plays

• Play must be typed with pages numbered. 

• Please include a brief synopsis of the play 

• Please include a cast breakdown

• Please include a cover page with the Title of the play, the author’s name, and contact information, including email and cell phone number. 

• Only the first 100 submissions will be accepted.

Selection process and timeline:  The selection panel, composed of playwrights and directors, will meticulously review all entries based on artistic merit, originality, writing quality, character development, dialogue, and overall appeal.  Selections will be announced by January 15, 2027.
